REAL NAME: Lincoln J. Barrett
LABELS: Hospital Records
Welsh Drum’n’Bass DJ and Producer. Born 18 September 1979. His father is Paul Barrett, the ex-manager of Shakin’ Stevens. Used to work in the Catapult record shop.
Penarth’s Lincoln Barrett has made a name for himself as one of the UK’s foremost dumn’n’bass producers. While studying film making in Newport, Barrett’s focus moved to making music, with a deep-rooted love of drum and bass originally awakened by hearing J Majik’s Arabian Nights. Influenced by the film soundtracks he’d been working with, his interest in films went down as his love of making music went up.
Mastering the mixer, turntables and Cubase while at college, he set about making his own music. Soon he had secured a residency at Cardiff’s drum and bass night Silent Running, and was working part time in the dance record shop Catapult.
Through his residency at Silent Running Barret played alongside DJs and producers including John B, Grooverider, Marky, Digital and London Elektricity.
Signed to Hospital Records on the strength of his minidisc demos and the recordings Passion and Suddenly, he quickly rose up in the drum and bass scene.
“I like punk, I also like jazz, I like classic… all kind of music. I’ve always been interested in extremes and bringing them together. I like the high contrast of sounds.”
