Smashing the 2016 doors right off the hinges: DJ SS’s Formation Records is celebrating 25 years of consistent jungle innovation in a major way throughout the year with one of its most loaded release schedules in recent times…
The year kicked off with DJ SS & Influx’s epic ‘Deepsound Vol 2’ album before a slew of killer singles from High Roll & Skiller, Subsonik and Sikka dropped throughout January and February. Next up: two timeless rollers from one D&B’s most legendary, longstanding partnerships: DJ SS & Warren G.

MC/DJ partnerships don’t get any tighter: from their legendary live performances to decade-spanning releases such as 1994’s ‘Watch The People’ and 2012’s ‘Raised In The Ghetto’, SS and Warren’s friendship runs deep, and has done since they were childhood friends.

Warren doesn’t hold the mic anywhere near as much as we’d like him to. But when he does, magic happens… Because he only writes and records when he truly believes in it. Like these two tracks: Wrapping his authentic reggae harmonies over DJ SS’s classic rolling beats, there’s a sense of warmth, clarity and authority across two unique, soulful and well-weighted originals. Plus two spotless versions.

Get to know: ‘Nothing Hollow’ guarantees musical substance and lyrical depth. As Warren sings himself over DJ SS’s restrained, spacey, star-gazing beats… This mission isn’t hollow. The Killer Mix speaks for itself; all the soul of the original but added grit on the bottom end for those later hours of the night.
‘Walk Through The Valley’ follows: tapping into the duo’s love of dub reggae, we ignite with a lush organic hook before dropping deep into rip-roaring bass and slap-happy skanks. Need a little more depth? The ‘Rub A Dub’ mix has got you covered.

Two ageless rollers, two worthy versions: DJ SS & Warren G’s lifelong partnership continues to bring the gold. With more Formation fire locked, loaded and ready to pop, 2016 isn’t getting its door fixed any time soon…
